the desire to be an ever-flowing source of energy for those around me, like brilliant loving water, is so consuming that i feel as though i could fly apart into...

could it ever happen?? ????? ?? ? ?? ??? ?? ??? ??

it seems unreachable.

i'm going to be in Quebec for four weeks!

i won't see anyone in california until christmas...how heavy is that..?
however the prospect of being in another country that's not Taiwan is exciting.

04:31 pm - skipping all the zombie moments
earlier this week (June 19th) i had my first bar gig, here:

just me and acoustic guitar singerman ken christensen, a serendipitous craigslist connection, playing an opening act of his songs for a crowd of five people or so.
the following act was a band called Eleisha Eagle - who i've never heard of before but did an incredible set!
the Lead was a cute/fierce redhead pounding away on a keyboard and literally a jungle-sized voice coming out of her mouth. she also did a tap dance (rockin'!)
an affirmation that one of my life goals is to be able to put myself out there like that.

Yesterday i taught myself a Dittybops song and the chords to Ziggy Stardust.
Today i watched Underground Cities on the History Channel (Paris).
!!!!!!!!!!!!
[info]spilt_ninja, i wanted to tell you to go find an urban guide to show you how to get to this secret old brewery underground that's blooming with graffiti art.
this is one not so satisfactory image i was able to find of it specifically:

10:31 am - back in ca but a story from houston
i can go to bed at 3 in the morning if i want.

i can also make a tender gesture that makes no sense, if i want.

magic scissors. funny little regrets, and typos. weird little attachments.

on my birthday (few days ago), jeff (vioin) and tony (viola and guy i'm with) and i went to Hermann Park and had a very saturated experience. evreything was vivid. there was a ladybug kite, and i discovered that i'm allergic to the grass in addition to being twenty years old.

...why the hell am i in houston? or anywhere, for that matter. (i'm sort of laughing as i write this). it's fantastically grueling to sift through everything.

07:01 pm - a dream and plans to go north
midterms were awful.

but

last night i dreamed that Berma Kinsey (my chemistry professor, who wore a shirt the first day of school that said "everyone is entitled to MY opinion!") was making us do this activity after some...speech?

aside: Former president Bill Clinton recently visited Rice - i think in the dream we had
just finished seeing a speech similar to this.

it was complete bullshit, like a middle school activity table with plants on it and packets of work to do. everyone was grumbling, but i was particularly upset by this. after a few moments i got up and started walking away. when my teacher spoke up, i turned around and told her i didn't want to do it. still backing away, and tears are starting to come down my face,
"i'm sorry, i love learning about plants and i love animals, i really do, but....... i HATE packets." i was laughing a little at the last part of the statement, feeling defiantly honest and open.

For a few seconds my professor was following me, but near the end of my statement she stopped advancing. She bent down and opened a tin, and two small frogs similar to the ones i raised from tadpoles with friend Elliott jumped out. Prof Kinsey waved at me, accepting my decision, and i walked off happily in my pink rainboots (real life), saw the frogs escape into a bush and a drain, and stepped through some mud, i think i was heading towards a campground or something....

when i woke up.

it's spring break now. i'm going up to austin TX for the first time on wednesday, by bus.
wish me awesome!

three parties, two batches of vegan wheat-free ginger spice cookies, and countless games of mah jong later.....

every so often i feel like little episodes of my life are part of a play, some strange production for my enlightenment. what's that about?
paradoxes and honesty mingle with a little too much tv...and half-smiling thoughts about people in my life.

08:47 pm - mmmmmmm
i return home in a few days, having been gone since august.
i have a feeling my room will be a surreal cave, with hidden treasures and outdated symbols, resting pensively on its old brown carpet, eager to see me come in and tell my full story, my mind ripe with the summary of it all.

i feel like baking.

so a couple weeks ago my family and i went to maui for the first time.
i saw four geckos, they were all sandy pink and quite small. i was pretty happy to see them because i hear they're good luck in hawai'i.
does that mean the good luck follows me to texas?

i'm hallucinating a lot more now.
my dreams are really vivid too. )

02:52 pm - foggy glasses
i've started volunteering at the CSUN music/media library, working with a cool cat named Alex Mack to help the music librarian Antonio process a huge donation of old music literature.

Last week was my first week - - - Antonio died yesterday morning (mourning...?)

he was hip, 44, and newly married to Lulu. i'm not sure what to think...

in better news, i had last night one of the longest conversations with my father(dad?) in recent memory. we were sitting in the darkness of our backyard in the jacuzzi, i don't even know why - and the fogged-up vision of him was strangely illuminating at that moment.
no ... actually it was the other way around, i hope.

i haven't written on this thing for a while...but i've had a lot of thoughts inbetween now and then.

not much in the mood to catch up...suffice it to say that's it's been strange this past day.

there's no better ingredient to better appreciate music than if your friends are performing. what happened earlier today was that my friends Hanako, Jeff, Nick, and Meta played their string quartet for a professional quartet (who were going to perform tonight, and as a nice gesture i guess they agreed to do a master class for a few of the student chamber groups).

it was wonderful - my friends played Ravel's String Quartet in F major (the second movement is featured in Royal Tenenbaums)

what was sostrange was that while i liked the people who were playing and loved the music i still felt a little awful inside. i dunno what it was maybe it was some sort of negative monster that floated up next to me. i went outside for a little while and sat next to a fountain and some trees, and felt much better.
later, at orchestra rehearsal, i was even (more!) better. ensemble is fantastic.

tomorrow is our symphony concert - :~) and we're playing
Symphony no. 1 "Jeremiah" by Leonard Bernstein (my favorite...it blows my mind)
Billy the Kid Suite by Aaron Copland
Blood Rite by ______ Partain (Rice Composer alumnus)

i love and miss you

oh, another good thing that happened today (and yesterday) was the huge booksale the library had at the student center today. there were a bunch of children's books from the 60s and 70s that were really lovely. more on that tomorrow - for now, here's some maurice sendak, whom i love very much.

12:22 pm - california dreaming...
the weather in houston has been in the 70s for a couple days. ~ahhhh~ today it is raining, and i couldn't be happier.

the two-day road trip to dallas with some crazy people i know turned into a lukewarm experience.
Un-thinking host and very very commercial Texas State Fair overrode the funny video footage we took, and salt water taffy.
luckily, me and the only other girl Sterling drove back together early, and it was the two of us in the car, engaged in engaging conversation.

so...right now, i'm waiting for a storm that might not even really happen. hurricane rita is heading east, and we'll probably only be grazed by wind gusts and rain, which, while uneventful, is fortunate. i almost wished that houston would get hit harder because the easterly parts including louisiana have barely recovered from katrina.

it's a very windy evening, and i'm feeling a little nervous.
however, i'm reminded of the gusty presence of the cat-bus from Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, so it's not so bad:
